Dead Bugs

Each painting depicts a dead bug. I see dead bugs around and so I choose to paint them each week. Or I'll choose a specimen from a recently extinct species of insect. I try not to distinguish the commonly found bugs from the disappeared ones. As I paint each piece, I consider what we have and what we might lose.

This series explores my relationship and imagined boundaries with the outside world. The building I reside in creates a physical barrier and an illusionary perimeter that defines my sovereignty apart from the organisms on the “outside.”

This project is ongoing and my aim is create over 100 individual painted dead bugs.
