Paintings
My paintings represent how I process and understand my world, translating a multiplicity of experience into my visual coded-language. In my work, as I practice in life, all options of existence are possible at once; eliciting a reality that is complete in its impossible dualities of being.
These works are heavily process-based. In order to gain new perspectives of approach, I often utilize tools that remove me from my habits: flying in a helicopter, operating a shipping crane, traveling by ship in the Polar North, or walking face-down to spy a world below my thoughts and fingers.
The act of painting begins with treatment of the surface in a way that invites gravity and viscosity to participate in the making. My brushwork responds to the language of remains and the restrictions of each chosen surface, be it linen, velvet, or algae-stained canvas, etc.
My repetitive manner of creation requires a slowing of thought and quieting of breath that opens my mind and heart to possibilities that had not been considered. It is an immersive act. Each finished painting is a receipt of the deep-work that has left an imprint on my awareness.
