Crisis Art Residency was a free, non-juried virtual Residency open to all creatives. It was founded in 2020 and spanned the length of the COVID-19 Pandemic as a way to initiate personal creative inquiry and encourage connection during a time of great precariousness. Over 200 international AIRs participated in the Residency through personal development, live interviews, critique, and performance. There were no requirements of time, participation, or documentation; only connection.
Creatives that participated in the virtual Residency represented a vast field of pursuit: choreographers, conceptual artists, graphic artists, painters, musicians, comedians, weavers, etc. Many connected over wifi. Some chose to remain anonymous.
Each has their own voice- practiced for public facing; but challenged during a time of sequestration. Often, personal artistic pursuits were self-critiqued and explored, with fruitful outcomes. I will be forever grateful. Connecting with others through this project allowed for a path of hope forward in a time of unquestionable dread.
